Start-up Project Pitch and Valuation Intern JANUARY 2022 (posted 02/01/2022) Important note: before applying please make sure you read and understand the full role description, together with all relevant application requirements and dates. Duration: 6-12 weeks / with longer term prospects for the right candidate. Full-time. Part-time or flexible working considered Location: Remote / home-working (business based in Cambridge and Barcelona). Business Type: A business-to-business, Deep Tech/AI-based start-up, with a particular focus on talent management and consulting markets. Company: Whitebridge Venture Consulting: Project “IntactV” Client Our client is a start-up business project, created by a group of experienced founders and application developers. The team believes it has identified an opportunity for which it is conducting detailed market feasibility tests. This will help to refine the business model and provide a basis for market diligence in support of an investor-facing business pitch. The application is intended to leverage opportunities afforded by DeepTech designs. The business proposition is confidential and successful candidates will be asked to agree to a non-disclosure agreement. Pitch and Valuation Intern Role Intact-V is an exciting early stage Deep Tech project that is looking for support with developing material to assist with investor conversations. The successful candidate should be self-driven and motivated with a thirst for measurements and metrics: whilst under the direction of the founders, they will be expected to take ownership of tasks and to act entrepreneurially. In preparation for a fund-raise in the year, this role provides a great, live opportunity to get first hand exposure in preparing a real-life start-up for investment pitches. This role with Intact-V is suitable for someone who is: ● Pursuing or completing a university MBA or financial business-related degree. ● Enthusiastic and motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit, ideally with a passion for Deep Tech and start-ups. ● Able to perform in an entrepreneurial environment with changing requirements and minimal guidance. Past experience in start-ups would be preferred but not necessary. Role and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ● Financial literacy: develop and communicate financial arguments to the rest of the team (and ultimately investors). ● Market research and analysis- create requirement specification for market research scope on overall market, competitors and similar products – and support conduct / support analysis as required / time allows. ● Investor pipeline: help research, validate and build out an investor pipeline and prepare an investor pitch deck. ● Financial modelling: model the project’s future financial projections based on different scenarios ● Pitch deck: help prepare an investor pitch deck and due diligence information. ● Self-development: co-working with and education of other members of the team. Everyone has something to learn and something to share. This will include presenting your work to teammates to get buy-in on your ideas, whilst contributing to the overall plan. Requirements Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate, either through experience, portfolio or academic work: ● Tactical and strategic thinking, with high levels of self-direction, innovation, and imagination. ● Great communication skills; the ability to clearly explain decisions and processes to anyone in the company. ● Attention to detail. ● Interest in emerging technologies (especially Deep Tech and Artificial Intelligence) ● Social media knowledge (content creation). ● Demonstrable drive for finance and valuation efforts, with good commercial understanding. ● Interest in assembling detailed data-based and evidence-driven assumptions ● Creative & innovative person, who can resolve tasks and challenges independently. ● Any previous presentation, pitch, press releases, blogging or content creation experience are most welcome. Essential Qualification/Experience Required The ideal intern candidate will be an inspiring and confident team player with: • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Very good MS Office Excel & Powerpoint competence. • Financial / commercial awareness, ideally with experience of valuation methods. • Very good written and spoken English language ability. (Please state level on application). • Relevant educational qualification is required – for example business or similar commercial first degree or business-related masters. Bonus attributes ● Valuation methods, for example, DCF techniques, especially in a start-up environment. ● Slack and Jira experience. ● Additional languages. ● MBA or Finance degree Additional opportunities Potentially, where time and progress allows, the right candidate could: ● Contribute to the business plan and creation of fund-raising pitch. ● Join a sister project looking at the delivery of various management consulting methodologies. ● Be considered for a role with the new start-up company, with the possibility of joining the new business post-internship. Benefits The successful candidate will gain practical experience and involvement in: ● Creating a viable start-up pitch. ● How a Deep Tech start-up project is evaluated and run. ● Developing awareness of advanced AI technology applications. ● Managing customer book building projects from finding clients to sales & marketing pitches and postdelivery business support. ● How to support the executive team translate customer and market metrics into an investor facing pitch, working with experienced founders and business people. ● Conducting and applying commercial due diligence ● Develop remote project management competencies. ● Work with an international team. Location The role will be remote working. Other members of the project team are based in the UK, Spain and India. Remuneration As a student internship for work experience with a start-up this is an unpaid voluntary position. Allowable expenses incurred in the course of the role will be reimbursed at cost. Working Hours The role is intended as full-time (30 hours/week) though part-time (e.g. 20 hours) or flexible working may be possible depending on individual circumstances. Out of normal office hours, work will be expected from time to time due to time zones and team availability.
