Guided by world leaders, scientists and entrepreneurs, EIT seeks to accelerate innovation in medical science and healthcare, food security and sustainable agriculture, clean energy and climate change, and government policy and economics.Within the UK EIT is expanding upon its existing collaborations with the University of Oxford by building a 320,000ft2 research institute and medical clinic at the nearby Oxford Science Park. We are looking for a highly skilled Facilities Technician who will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our facilities, with a particular focus on laboratory spaces and areas with high-end finishes. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse skill set encompassing facility maintenance, repair, and improvement, as well as specialised knowledge in laboratory equipment and high-quality finishes. Hours of work will generally be Monday to Friday, core hours 08:30-17:30 and will be office/site based. However due to the nature of the role and organisation, there may be times where flexibility is required during the evening and occasionally weekends to accommodate interaction with EIT Los Angeles and also on international recruitment campaigns managed by Oxford. Duties/Responsibilities: May include some or all the following responsibilities: Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings (electrical, mechanical & plumbing), Fault finding skills on electrical/ mechanical/ plumbing systems, Ordering of components for rapid/ quality repairs, Assessment of critical spares held to ensure timely response to issues, Perform root cause analysis on relevant failures, Use of a CMMS to keep accurate records and ensure compliance, Able to review contractor risk assessments and method statements and ensure a safe approach to works, Support development and control of a permit to work system and enhancements to functionality, Review maintenance regimes/ safe systems of work/ predictive/ preventative/ reactive plans during the design and construction phases of projects and handover, Input and support on safety procedures and processes, Support other business functions and other departments, Ensure the status of repairs and parts is understood by safety and environmental journey is communicated to all key stakeholders, as required, Any other tasks or responsibilities assigned that are deemed reasonable and in scope of the role. Required Skills/Abilities: Existing UK work entitlement, Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs, Perform preventative/ predictive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment and systems operate efficiently, Respond promptly to facility reactive maintenance requests and address issues in a timely manner, Experience in a GxP environment preferred, Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems as needed, Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability, Provide support for the installation, operation, and maintenance of specialised laboratory instruments and systems, Follow strict protocols and procedures to ensure the integrity of laboratory environments, Perform precision work in maintaining and repairing high-end finishes such as marble, granite, wood, and glass, Execute finishing tasks with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring surfaces are flawless and aesthetically pleasing, Apply specialised techniques and materials to restore and enhance the appearance of high-quality finishes, Collaborate with contractors and vendors to procure materials and resources for finishing projects, Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure and hazard-free work environment, Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in facility management and laboratory safety, Conduct safety inspections and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and hazards, Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections, Generate reports detailing work performed, equipment status, and recommendations for improvement, Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding maintenance schedules, project updates, and resource needs, Maintain accurate records and compile reports as required, Deputise for other members of the Facilities Department, Have a methodical and flexible approach to work, whilst always displaying a high degree of professionalism, Be responsible for housekeeping, tidiness, and general cleanliness of all areas in which the post-holder is working, Assist in the training of other staff as required, Person Specification: Role holder will ensure that they work at all times towards the following: - Professional attitude towards each other, customers & auditors, Deliver on promises, control projects to agreed deadlines. Communicate effectively on all aspects of work. Will maintain and enhance relationships inside and outside of the Facilities team. Will ensure communication is executed at all stages of works to ensure the customer is satisfied and aware of the progress and status of all works. Will understand own contribution to team/reports and line manager to ensure personal and Department objectives are met. Will ensure the line manager is aware of priorities. Activities affecting external personnel involve some complex communications. Examples may include, Public, Landlords, Estate Management, Contractors, Consultants, Statutory Bodies, Regulatory Agencies, Local Authorities, Legal Advisors or Solicitors. Education and Experience: Technical qualifications [for example, qualified electrician] or certified training preferred. Proven experience in facility maintenance, with a focus on laboratory environments and high-end finishes. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Proficiency in troubleshooting equipment and systems malfunctions. Experience with precision work in repairing and maintaining high-quality finishes. Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
