Collections Officer Job Overview We are delighted to represent our client in offering an opportunity to join their team as a Collections Officer, reporting to the Business Operations Team Manager. This role is based in Durham and involves contacting individuals and businesses with outstanding debts to negotiate repayment arrangements. The ideal candidate will be proactive, driven, and possess excellent communication skills, with a strong ability to negotiate. Your Mission Your primary responsibilities will include contacting individuals and businesses with overdue debts via telephone, email, and written correspondence. You will negotiate payment plans and settlements to recover outstanding balances, maintaining accurate records of all communications and payment arrangements. Conduct thorough research to locate debtors and verify contact information and follow up to ensure compliance with agreed-upon payment arrangements. You will provide support and assistance to debtors experiencing financial difficulties while adhering to legal and regulatory requirements governing debt collection practices. Meeting or exceeding monthly targets for debt recovery and call quality is a key aspect of this role. Key Competencies Previous experience in debt collection or a related field is required. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Knowledge of the commercial energy market (preferred). Positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt. Proficiency in using CRM software and other relevant tools. Offer Details Salary : £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience. Location : Based in Durham, office-based role.
