Role Summary The Software Engineer role works as an integral part of a development team delivering high quality code in accordance with the departmental coding standards in order to satisfy product and bespoke customer requirements. All team members are expected to contribute and drive continuous improvements to quality and efficiency of the department.Reporting to the Data Team Technical Lead, you will be working to build out a framework of technologies used to convert data of various types, and supporting several standards, into a singular proprietary format used across our Operational Content Management suite of products to allow our clients to view and work with this data in a standardised manner, regardless of the original source of data. You will also be responsible for integrating new source formats and standards into this framework, as required by new and/or prospective clients, and the generation of bespoke output data formats used by our clients to feed data from our systems into their own. Technical Skills Java development experience Excellent knowledge of Java language and core API Web Browser/Web server/Database interactions Ability to produce technical documentation to support implemented solutions Commercial experience with:- Java 11- Eclipse IDE/IntelliJ- Git (BitBucket), SVN- Jenkins- Junit- HTML/JavaScript- REST Services- MavenBeneficial commercial experience:- Newer versions of Java (e.g. Java 17/21)- XML data processing (i.e. SAX/DOM)- Docker- Working with DBMSs such as MySQL- Basic understanding of Perl / Unix Shell Scripts (for analysing legacy systems) Essential Skills Delivering software using Agile methods (Scrum, Kanban, etc) Ability to analyse and maintain existing solutions Strong working knowledge and understanding of software development lifecycles Self-motivation and drive Strong team working skills Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Excellent analytical and organization skills An ability to understand end users' requirements and a problem-solving attitude Passionate about software development Passionate about delivering high-quality software Due to the sensitivity of data handled in some of our projects, it is desirable that you are UK SC Cleared or have the ability to attain it, however this is not essential.
