Position: Process Engineer - Water/Wastewater Location: Offices across Ireland Company Overview: A leading provider of engineering professional consulting and support services with a strong presence in Ireland is seeking a Process Engineer with over 3 years of experience in the water/wastewater sector to join the Infrastructure Division. Role Overview: The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for various clients, including Irish Water. They will join a dynamic and ambitious team offering excellent career prospects and international opportunities. Key Responsibilities: Conduct plant and process reviews, assessments, and route-cause analyses using advanced evaluation techniques. Support plant operation, optimization, and troubleshooting. Perform feasibility, outline, and detailed process design, including mass, heat, and energy balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, hydraulic design, design risk assessments, control philosophies, commissioning strategies, cost and program estimations, plant and equipment specifications, and supplier tender evaluation. Develop and utilize digital design tools for water quality analysis, unit process sizing, process performance metrics, hydraulic calculations, and other automated design tools. Write technical reports at all stages of the project lifecycle. Liaise with clients within Ireland and worldwide. Support and/or lead bids, fee proposals, or service offers; develop activity schedules/work plans. Understand and apply HAZOP, DSEAR, CDM, WIMES, Irish and European Standards, and other statutory, regulatory, and non-regulatory provisions and guidance. Develop standard and bespoke design solutions across the entire water industry spectrum. Meet and exceed quality, program, budgetary, and H&S requirements on projects. Contribute to innovative ideas and make suggestions for innovation. Present project work at company meetings or conferences. Role Requirements: Degree-qualified in chemical/process engineering. Typically, over 3 years of experience in the water and/or wastewater engineering sector. Previous design and/or commissioning experience. Strong communication and soft skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team. Good knowledge of industry best practices, regulatory standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to the Water Industry. Proven ability to manage and mentor teams and/or individuals and/or projects, potentially across disciplines and locations. A developing external profile and reputation, with a desire to raise the profile of oneself and the company. Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks. Experience in the Following Areas is Desirable: Clean water treatment processes (DAF, RGFs, Disinfection, membrane filtration, etc.). Biological wastewater treatment (ASP, MBBR, MBR, IFAS, SBR, etc.). Chemical dosing systems (Orthophosphate removal, pH adjustment, etc.). Sludge treatment (Centrifuge, Filter press, Thickeners, etc.). Odour and septicity treatment. DSEAR, HAZOP lead, and functional safety. Digital twins.
