Safer Communities Officer – ASB & Statutory Nuisance Lewisham, London Temporary, 6 Month Contract Possibility for Extension Full Time, 35 Hours Per Week Hybrid/Flexible Working 3 out in the field, 2 WFH – May Include Occasional Weekend Work Enhanced DBS RequiredWe are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Safer Communities Officer to join a Local Safer Communities Officer – ASB & Statutory Nuisance Lewisham, London Temporary, 6 Month Contract Possibility for Extension Full Time, 35 Hours Per Week Hybrid/Flexible Working 3 out in the field, 2 WFH – May Include Occasional Weekend Work Enhanced DBS RequiredWe are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Safer Communities Officer to join a Local Authority in Lewisham. In this role, you will address complaints related to community safety, anti-social behaviour, and statutory nuisance. You will be integral in ensuring a safe environment for all residents by responding to and investigating complaints, performing enforcement actions, and collaborating with various stakeholders.Key Responsibilities: Manage a complex caseload of complaints related to community safety, anti-social behaviour, and statutory nuisances.Provide timely responses to victims of crime and anti-social behaviour, adhering to relevant legislation and performance indicators.Offer expert advice on the requirements of relevant legislation, such as the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014, and the Environmental Protection Act 1990.Conduct investigations using various methods, including the installation of noise and camera equipment, and gathering evidence for enforcement action.Implement enforcement actions, including issuing statutory notices, warning letters, fines, and prosecuting offenders.Represent the organization under the Licensing Act 2003 in addressing noise nuisances from licensed premises.Prepare case reports, prosecution files, and conduct Pace Interviews.Present evidence in court as part of enforcement actions.Accurately log complaints and evidence on relevant databases, ensuring timely updates and adherence to protocols.Participate in the council’s out-of-hours nuisance response service, conducting site visits and enforcement actions as required.Work outside usual office hours to witness nuisances and complete investigations.Utilise intelligence-based approaches to identify and address community safety concerns and statutory nuisances.Undertake project work and problem-solving initiatives in partnership with relevant agencies.Organise and participate in multi-agency operations to tackle crime and disorder issues.Provide professional advice to colleagues and other council members. Requirements: Commitment to the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policies and awareness of working in a diverse community.Knowledge of local and national agendas in community safety, anti-social behaviour, and statutory nuisance.Detailed understanding of relevant legislation and casework requirements.Ability to work flexibly on a range of issues and establish effective relationships with stakeholders.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to undertake complex investigations and enforcement actions.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with the public and professionals.Significant experience in crime reduction, community safety, ASB, noise nuisance, and statutory nuisance.Project management skills and the ability to draft formal written responses to a high standard.Experience of preparing and presenting evidence in court.
