What you'll do As a Scientist in our Bioscience In Vivo Department, you will be a key member of the team, performing studies which will help support a diverse range of projects. This role specifically involves working as a lab-based scientist in the area of in vivo, ex vivo & in vitro pharmacology. You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing and reporting scientific activities, including keeping accurate records. The role will sometimes involve implementing protocols over timelines that extend outside of normal working patterns. Essential Skills/Experience: A minimum of a BSc/MSc or equivalent, in pharmacology, immunology or a related discipline with experience of in vivo preclinical studies with additional lab-based experience and knowledge of ex vivo/ in vitro analytical techniques for sample analysis. Currently a Home Office PIL holder or recently passed Home Office Modules A, B & C. Alternatively a willingness to obtain a PIL. Experienced in tissue sample processing for molecular biology biomarkers such as DNA, RNA extraction and in performing protein assays such as ELISA and enzyme activity. Able to independently assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpret findings and draw appropriate conclusions. A thorough understanding of experimental design and applying the appropriate statistical methods. Experience of maintaining the highest standards of welfare and ethical compliance as well as ensuring the integrity of the data generated. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and able to proficiently use computers for data acquisition, processing, analysis and presentation. A highly motivated, independent scientist also able to work effectively as part of a team. Desirable Skills/Experience: Excellent hands-on in vivo skills and the ability to independently run disease and mechanistic models, including administering candidate drugs and collecting a variety of biological samples. Experience and understanding of respiratory-specific in vivo techniques and model development for drug discovery projects. Fully conversant with all aspects of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, Directive 2010/63/EU, associated Home Office guidelines and their implications. Familiar with applying the 3Rs across the full range of studies. Thorough understanding of immunology in the context of the airways, skin, gastrointestinal tract etc In depth knowledge of in vitro plate-based analytical assays e.g. ELISA, MSD Experience with working with human biological samples with knowledge of appropriate regulations When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines.
