Job title: Broadcast JournalistReporting to: Managing DirectorHours: Full time 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday (Flexibility required to work weekends, bank holidays and additional hours)Salary: Competitive and based on knowledge, skills & experienceCompany: Islam Channel (Urdu) LtdThe Role: The Broadcast Journalists will to ensure that Islam Channel (Urdu) output retains its distinctiveness, character and status to a global audience. Broadcast Journalists will present and contribute to and influence our regional and international news & current affairs coverage, as well as participate in new media platforms of live and pre-recorded programming. Broadcast Journalists are responsible from conception to production of live and pre-recorded programmes at the headquarters in London as well as external locations whilst working closely with the studio crew, postproduction (editing team), Programming Manager and Head of Department. Research/investigate new and current stories as well as breaking headlines whilst ensuring factual content and adherence to Ofcom regulations as well as to company policy. Conduct live and pre-recorded interviews, preparing interview questions as well as reporting stories Scriptwriting Attend press conferences and events Ensure programming content and work activities are effectively managed with consideration to budget and resources Generating ideas for stories and features and following leads from news agencies, the public, press conferences and other sources; Researching, verifying and collating evidence and information to support a story using relevant information sources such as the internet, archives, databases, etc Writing scripts for bulletins, headlines and reports on a daily basis; Selecting appropriate locations, pictures and sound and exercising editorial judgement on the best angle from which to approach a story; Identifyingnecessary resources and deploying and managing technical crews for location shoots, including sound operators and camera crew; Preparing and presenting material 'on air' for both pre-recorded and live pieces; Identifyingpotential interviewees and booking guests, briefing them, preparing interview questions and conducting both live and recorded interviews; Preparing timings for each news item and monitoring these during broadcast; Deciding on the running order for bulletins and making any necessary changes during broadcast; Collaborating with the editor to put together the completed programme or item as well as editing as and when required; Developing and maintaining local contacts and assuming a public relations role; Understanding and complying with media law and industry codes of conduct; and Building and maintaining a wider range of business contacts, including resource providers and contributors for the programme Skills: Excellent communication skills and writing skills with the ability to fluently listen, speak effectively and clearly in English and Urdu is essential for this role Good Broadcasting voice and presenting skills including ability to adapt style of presentation to content and audience accordingly for both pre-recorded and live programming Ability to prioritise workload effectively and work to conflicting deadlines Editorial Judgement; balanced and objective judgement based on a thorough understanding of editorial guidelines, target audience, programme and department objectives and taking into account of conflicting views where necessary and ability to exercise good judgement when selecting and writing stories, mindful of Islam Channel Urdu editorial policy and legal issues.  Excellent attention to detail Good knowledge and passion in social, cultural and political affairs and/or content relevant to the department Basic knowledge of broadcasting technology Ability to take leadership, management and ownership of one’s own projects Ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently Experience: Minimum of 2 years previous experience as a journalist (Broadcasting, Print, Radio or other media) Minimum of 2 year’s experience as a television reporter Qualifications: Degree or Postgraduate Qualification in Broadcast Journalism or other relevant academic qualification is highly advantageous
