R-199413: Senior Scientist in vivo Bioscience - Respiratory & Immunology - 1-year fixed term contract Cambridge, UK Competitive Salary & Benefits Are you a strong in vivo scientist with experience in inflammation biology and an outstanding drive for innovation and idea generation? If so, we have an exciting, fixed term opportunity for an established Senior Scientist to join our in vivo Bioscience team .Based at our brand new, pioneering R&D facility - The Discovery Centre (DISC). Located at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the DISC is our largest research and development centre in the UK and is home to more than 2,000 people working across therapy areas and drug discovery.Respiratory and Immunology is one of AstraZeneca's main therapeutic areas and our aim is to transform the lives of patients with chronic lung conditions such as asthma and COPD, as well as inflammatory and autoimmune diseases including atopic dermatitis, arthritis and lupus (SLE). Accountabilities: In this role, you'll drive the science and develop valuable solutions for respiratory and/or inflammatory diseases. You'll be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical compliance as well as data integrity. As an in vivo lead for studies supporting pre-clinical discovery and early development projects, you will design and develop disease-relevant in vivo models and biomarkers. You will also contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of primary data as well as writing reports and summaries. As a valued and creative team member, you'll play a key role in supporting drug discovery projects to meet their goals and objectives, playing your part in bringing life-changing medicines to our patients! Essential Requirements: PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or MSc (or equivalent) complemented with an extensive consistent track record of in vivo work. Personal License Certificate or equivalent certification. Practical in vivo experience and experimental skills in the use of animal models. Sound understanding of pharmacology, physiology and immunology. Analytical skills related to in vivo research and data analysis. Good written and oral communication skills in English. The ability to operate independently and act autonomously whilst still collaborating as part of a dedicated team; developing ideas by incorporating the views of others. Ability to communicate effectively across language, cultural, or other barriers. Understanding of statistical methods, quality control including data reporting and archiving. Desirable Requirements: Respiratory or inflammatory disease knowledge, including target and mechanism knowledge. Experience of specialised in vivo techniques and development of in vivo models.
