Job Summary: Salary range: GBP 31,716 : GBP 35,862 pro rata per annum (actual salary GBP 15,858 : GBP 17,931 per annum)Work location: LondonHours per week: 18Contract type: Temporary up to 24 monthsClosing date: 30th June 2024Interview date: Week commencing 15th July 2024 About Us: Transforming museum records to make them fit for the future. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea manages two of the most important house museums in London: Leighton House, the former studio:house of the Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton; and Sambourne House, home of the legendary illustrator Linley Sambourne. Both have recently reopened after an award:winning refurbishment and we now want to make our unique collection of textiles, paintings, and sculptures more accessible to researchers, and the wider public. The Role: In this new role, you'll make an impact by helping us document our permanent collections across both houses. We'll look to you to create new systems and processes to ensure our collections management meets the Arts Council's Museum Accreditation standards. This will include making sure all documentation is up to date, auditing the collection and archive, and managing the collection store. You will also work on accessioning the museum's backlog and any new acquisitions. A key challenge will be to work with the curators in the ongoing digitisation of the collection and development of online materials and resources. Enhancing access to the reserve collections for researchers and community groups. Due to the nature of this part:time role, you would be required to work from our offices 100 of your time, i.e. your 2.5 working days must be based at our Museums. Please refer to the Job Description for more information About You: Methodical, accurate and computer literate, you're likely to have experience of cataloguing standards and working with collections management databases such as CALM. This will ideally be backed by a relevant qualification in art history, museum studies, heritage management or conservation. Experience of collections care and documentation would be particularly welcome. Your flexible, collaborative, creative attitude will contribute to the success of our small, friendly team, which includes a large number of volunteers.
