Job Summary: Salary range: GBP 31,716 : GBP 35,862 pro rata per annum (actual salary GBP 15,858 : GBP 17,931 per annum)Work location: LondonHours per week: 18Contract type: PermanentClosing date: 30th June 2024Interview date: Week commencing 15th July 2024 About Us: Small museums, big ambitions The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea manages two of the most important house museums in London: Leighton House, the former studio:house of the Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton; and Sambourne House, home of the legendary illustrator Linley Sambourne. Both have recently reopened after an award:winning refurbishment and we're now ambitious to expand our exhibitions programme. Alongside our permanent collection, we currently host around four exhibitions a year, across our two exhibition galleries. The Role: In this new role, you'll be integral to delivering our exhibitions programme. Specifically, you will manage long:term and temporary loans in and out of the museum, covering everything from insurance and transport arrangements to record:keeping and agreements, as well as ongoing communication with lenders and borrowers. Some contract negotiation around art handling and transport will also be involved. Responsible for artworks when they are in transit between different venues, you'll need to ensure meticulous attention to every detail. You will also coordinate the installation and de:installation of temporary exhibitions, and participate in emergency planning. Due to the nature of this part:time role, you would be required to work from our offices 100 of your time, i.e. your 2.5 working days must be based at our Museums. Please refer to the Job Description for more information About You: You're likely to have experience of working in a museum or heritage setting, in the area of registration. This will be backed by a relevant qualification in art history, museum studies or heritage management, and a good knowledge of collections management, loans arrangement and related conservation issues. Experience of working on temporary loan exhibitions would be particularly welcome. Highly organised and methodical, you'll have exceptional time management skills, but you'll also be flexible enough to prioritise and problem:solve on your feet during hectic installation periods.
