Material Science Engineer
Description:
We are seeking a Materials Science Engineer for our Huddersfield site. This is a 12-month onsite role with the possibility of extension or transition to a permanent contract.Ideal candidates will have 1-2 years of experience in a similar role and hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science/Engineering or a related field.Experience in the automotive industry is beneficial but not mandatory.We are seeking a Materials Science Engineer for our Huddersfield site. Key Responsibilities: Lead laboratory requests and small projects.Test and approve components against internal specifications.Provide feedback to design reviews.Conduct failure analysis of test and field components.Support R&D projects related to aluminium components and processing. Required Skills and Experience: Experience with aluminium alloys.Proficiency in failure analysis and problem-solving.Industrial experience, particularly in automotive, is beneficial.Laboratory experience including sample preparation, microscopy, analysis, and reporting.Knowledge of materials characterisation equipment metallographic preparation, optical microscopy, SEM.Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Employee Competencies: Material Characterisation: Interpret mechanical, chemical, microstructural, and physical properties.Component Failure Analysis: Identify failure modes and mechanisms, and recommend corrective actions.Material and Process Selection: Evaluate component requirements, and select appropriate materials and processes.Technical Documentation: Document and communicate technical information effectively.Communication: Deliver clear, multi-mode communications tailored to different audiences.Results-Driven: Consistently achieve results under challenging circumstances.Collaboration: Build partnerships and work collaboratively.Networking: Build formal and informal relationships inside and outside the organization.Decision Quality: Make timely and effective decisions. Personality Traits: Effective in a fast-paced, cross-functional team.Listens and responds to direction from managers and peers.Offers opinions and provides direction based on technical data and knowledge.
