Circa £24,000 p.a. Public Finance is the leading publication for public sector finance professionals in the UK and around the world. We are looking for a new reporter who wants to take the opportunity to set the news agenda during a crucial period for public services. We are looking for a journalist with NCTJ or equivalent and shorthand who is ready to break exclusives and carry out agenda-setting investigations. They will be covering international organisations, national UK policy and specialist issues including pensions and treasury. This isn’t a beginner’s role. The role Researching, sourcing and writing news including exclusives for the web and features for our six print editions per year Developing senior-level contacts across the public sector, global government organisations and Whitehall Developing expertise in public finance and an understanding of how it impacts services and policy Be able to critically analyse data and spot trends Be able to read official reports and explain the key findings Write agenda-setting, original features including analysis Connect with the Public Finance audience via social media, video and podcasts. Key skills Excellent written English and strong writing skills. Be analytical and able to make judgements about complex subjects Excellent writing skills and a distinct voice Comfortable managing several tasks and deadlines, working under pressure Confident in dealing with press teams and senior contacts – including telephone Knowledge of public sector organisations, public policy and local government are helpful. About us The role is based in our Farringdon office with flexibility to work from home. There will also be some UK travel.
