The Applications team within R and D supports Lubrizol through the invention and synthesis of new speciality:chemicals and technical support of existing products. We are looking for a motivated scientist to join our Applications team who will use their technical expertise to evaluate additives in Coatings, Inks and Composites applications and interpret and analyse analytical and performance data. The ideal candidate will have experience working in coatings laboratory evaluating new formulations and materials. This role is based at Hexagon Tower, Blackley Manchester located in a suburban setting, four miles from Manchester City Centre, UK. Salary competitive dependent upon skills and experience, plus excellent benefits. In this role you will: Be part of a creative research department working on a variety of application areas. Design and undertake evaluation of different additive technologies in coatings and composites meet defined business needs. Decide how projects should proceed using logic, experience, and creativity to meet agreed timelines. Have the opportunity to propose and develop your own ideas. May be assigned as a Technical Leader for projects. Document, interpret and communicate results to colleagues and internal project sponsors. Present scientific data at internal/external meetings. Input into other areas of importance such as Sustainability and outreach activities. Follow safe laboratory practices. The ideal candidate will have: Science A Levels, BTEC or equivalent laboratory experience in chemistry Ability scientific understanding to experiment planning Good communication, team working and interpersonal skills, to be successful in a multidisciplinary environment Good project management skills, with experience of managing multiple projects to deadlines Good IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chemdraw or equivalent) Preferred experience Ability to operate equipment for milling, mixing or compounding Ability to make rheological measurements of solutions or pastes. Ability to formulate and coat films onto substrates. Ability to make colour measurements and interpret results. Ability to conduct mechanical tests to evaluate new polymer:composite materials.
