ROLE AND PURPOSE OF POSITIONDelivery of long term athletic development programmes for Provincial Talent and National Talent Squads in the Connacht pathway from Regional Development Squads /Provincial Talent Squads/ National Talent Squads (U15-U19) right through to entry into the Academy system Support Provincial and National Talent Squad Players Referencing National IRFU Standards and benchmarks, coordinate the design and delivery of athletic development and sports science services for identified PTS and NTS players with input and support from the Head of Academy Athletic Development in Connacht RugbyAssist in the planning, coordination and delivery of the Connacht Age Grade Summer and in-season programmes for squads from U15-U19Provide where appropriate extra resources to NTS players in the form of additional sessions and return to play protocols 2. Work alongside the wider Connacht Athletic Development (AD) Staff Contribute to the Connacht Age Grade AD StaffAssist in the delivery of the Academy and Sub Academy programmeContribute to the overall performance of the Connacht Athletic Performance Department 3. Manage and develop part-time AD staff in our programmes providing regular performance feedback.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSOperational Head of Academy Athletic Development, Connacht RugbyAcademy Manager, Connacht RugbyFunctional: Head of Athletic Performance, Connacht RugbyWORKING RELATIONSHIPS Academy Manager, Connacht RugbyHead of Athletic Performance, Connacht RugbyHead of Academy Athletic Development, Connacht RugbyProvincial Talent Coaches, Connacht RugbyNational Talent Athletic Development Coach, IRFUDomestic Game Rugby Staff and Constituents, Connacht RugbyRugby, Nutrition, Medical and Athletic Development & Performance Staff, Connacht & IRFU RESPONSIBILITIESSpecific responsibilities include: Pathway – PTS/NTS U15 to Academy Liaise regularly with the Head of Academy Athletic Development to ensure appropriate programme alignment and prescription to the needs of the RDS/PTS/NTS, PTS1(Sub Academy), and Academy programmesAssist with squad preparation during pre-season and in-season at both provincial and national level where requiredQuality assure, and where required, coach Athletic Development sessions within the RDS/PTS/NTS Programme, constantly reinforcing best practice and being a role model for professional practice 2. Education/CPD Attend and contribute to workshops, in-service meetings and professional development courses / workshops and other supports workshops as directed by NTACD and the Head of Athletic Performance General responsibilities include: Ensure alignment of NTS/PTS programme to the needs of the Academy in Connacht and IRFU standards to ensure player KPI achievementDevelop and maintain excellent working relationships with key school and club coachesEnsure a thorough understanding and alignment in the AD programmes between the Connacht Age Grade, PTS 1 (Sub Academy) and Academy through effective communication and relationship maintenanceAttend and contribute to IRFU workshops, in-service meetings and professional development courses/workshops and other IRFU supported workshopsPortray a competent and professional image of the Connacht Rugby and the IRFU on behalf of the Athletic Performance department KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORSNB: The following KPI’s are general. Specific targets will be set for the role based on annual reviews. This will include an appraisal and review of the attainment of the KPI’s set at previous review. Deliver specific targets agreed with Connacht’s Academy Manager and Head of Academy Athletic DevelopmentImprove the proficiency of athletic development programmes for RDS/PTS/NTS players linked to their personal development plans and IRFU standardsMaintain effective relationships with various staff within the province and the IRFUCarry out duties and responsibilities to an effective and efficient standardMake effective and informed decisions in relation to the role and the departmentBe a professional resource and coaching support for identified schools and clubs ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE CRITERIA Recognised degree or Higher National Diploma in Physical Education, Athletic Performance or Sports Science,A minimum of 3 years practical experience of the provision of athletic development to athletes to improve performance,Experience and knowledge pertaining to injury prevention methods and return to play protocols,Experience coaching, programming and planning for strength, power, speed, agility, and conditioning in a team sport environment,Experience and knowledge pertaining to relevant sport science systems and load monitoring methods (e.g., player monitoring, GPS, performance testing, etc.,Available to work irregular and unsocial hours as required by your contract outside of normal office hours. DESIRABLE CANDIDATE CRITERIA A post graduate degree in Sport Science or Athletic Performance,A recognised professional certification in strength and conditioning (e.g., NSCA, ASCA, UKSCA, etc.),Recognised First Aid and CPR certification,Excellent computer literacy skills,Full Driving licence and/or ability to relocate to Galway.
