Community Phlebotomist Band 3
Key Responsibilities: To be fully competent in all aspects of venepuncture as according to the Trust Venepuncture Policy and practice different approaches to the technique maintaining competency levels through annual reassessment protocols. To carry out phlebotomy duties as agreed by the senior members of staff and to bring any problems to the attention of the line manager that may arise during the course of their duty. To learn and maintain an up to date knowledge of the blood tests performed by the various departments and their appropriate bottles and containers. To label blood samples as directed in the Venepuncture Policy. To ensure samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory. To be fully conversant with the Phlebotomy Policy, departmental Standard Operating Procedures ensuring that personal performance complies with Clinical Pathology Accreditation [CPA] standards. To liaise with the other staff especially the doctors and nurses on the ward, GP’s in the surgeries and the Biomedical Scientists and Anticoagulant Nurses in Pathology.
