Job Details Role Title: Crime Scene Investigator : HC616601 Location:Portsmouth Starting salary:Scale 5/6/SO1, GBP 27,789 : GBP 35,982 per annum plus shift allowance, weekend enhancements and standby allowance Contract: Permanent Hours: 37 hours per week : shift work covering weekends and evenings Closing Date:Wednesday 22nd May 2024 at 23:59 hours What is a Crime Scene Investigator? Crime Scene Investigators (CSI's) are responsible for examining a crime scene to document and recover evidence to prove or disprove a person's involvement in a crime and the sequence of events. CSIs can also use forensic techniques to identify adeceased person on behalf ofthe Coroner. CSI's are trained to a high standard to ensure the best evidence is available to the investigation and to the Criminal Justice System, using a variety of methods to recover physical evidence such as friction ridge detail, DNA, footwear marks and trace evidence. Key accountabilities include but are not limited to: : Support investigations through the preservation, capture and assessment of evidence at crime scenes using digital capture, forensic and fingerprint techniques which may link an individual to the scene. : Observe, assess and record all aspects of a crime scene and the immediate environment, ensuring that all findings are available to support the wider investigation. : Handle exhibits from investigations in line with agreed protocols to main the integrity, continuity and security of evidence in support of investigative processes and court proceedings. : Attend suspicious deaths and post:mortems to provide appropriate forensic advice and support and to recover any evidential material which may have forensic potential. : Undertake forensic examination of exhibits from crime scenes within an accredited ISO17025 facility to assess their forensic potential to support an investigation. : Prepare and present evidence, including, but not limited to, statements, schedules, incident logs, and prepare exhibits for the laboratory. Additional Requirements Be prepared to work outside of normal hours on a departmental shift pattern and are required to participate in an out:of:hours call out rota. The role holder may be required to visit various locations within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and must hold a current full drivers licence and be prepared to take and pass a Force driving course if required. There will be an expectation to undertake call:out duties as part of a duty rota. Be prepared to submit a DNA sample to the central elimination database (CED) and SSD internal DNA Database and provide a set of fingerprints. Represent Hampshire and IOW Constabulary in a variety of situations and will be required to wear a uniform whilst on duty. Have, and maintain, a reasonable standard of physical fitness which will encompass: : The ability to demonstrate a standard of corrected or uncorrected eyesight at an agreed acceptable limit (this will be set in consultation with the Force Medical Officer according to criteria connected with age of applicant and demands of post). : Being sufficiently agile to climb, bend and get into awkward places, such as roofs, ditches, etc. : not suffering from fear of heights. : Possessing good hand/eye co:ordination. Maintain and keep updated on all aspects of professional knowledge and development which will be documented to support ongoing professional development and facilitate decision making. This is particularly key for this role with continuing technical advances across conventional and digital forensic platforms. Tutor, mentor or facilitate stakeholder attachments to the SSD department. Suitable training will be given to allow for tutoring of new CSI's.Must have a full UK driving licence.
